Orientmattor has skilled craftsmen who can invisibly repair almost any damage to your precious carpet, whether it is a hand-knotted rug or a hand-woven Kilim. Worn spots due to wear, moth holes, broken carpet edges, or worn fringe can be confidently entrusted to us. Even larger holes can be re-woven and knotted by hand. We also restore antique carpets.
Assessment & Cleaning
We first thoroughly inspect the carpet to understand the type and extent of the damage. This determines the required repair techniques. Common issues include worn areas, holes, moth damage, faded colors, frayed edges, and damaged fringe.
Before any repair takes place, it is essential to clean the carpet to remove dirt, grime, and any pests. This often involves a gentle wash with specialized solutions.
Reparation
This carpet had to be repaired. A lot of new knots had to be created.
Re-weaving & Edge Repair
If there are holes or worn areas, they need to be re-woven. This involves carefully matching the thread in both color and texture, followed by re-knotting in the style of the original weave.
Edges that have become frayed or damaged can be rebound. This means wrapping new yarns around the edge to strengthen and restore its appearance.
New edge
First, the old edge will need to be removed, then new yarns can be wrapped around the edge to enhance and restore its appearance.
Fringe Repair & Dyeing
If the fringe (the tassels at the ends of the carpet) is damaged, it can be repaired or replaced. In some cases, a new fringe is sewn on, or the existing one is reinforced.
If the colors have faded or if the new yarns introduced in the repair process do not exactly match the original colors, specialists can perform color restoration. This means that the fibers are carefully redyed to match the original shade.
New fringe
The old fringe was worn out and we replaced it with a brand new fringe.
Final inspection
Sometimes a carpet can become misshapen over time. In such cases, it is stretched and secured on a flat surface to restore its original shape.
After all repairs have been carried out, the carpet undergoes a final inspection to ensure that the restoration is seamless and that the integrity of the carpet is intact.
Stretching & Final Inspection
Almost all fringes have been restored, now any deformations can be straightened and then the final inspection follows.
Protection
Once it has been repaired, consider using carpet pads. These can extend the life of your carpet by protecting it from wear and tear. Regular maintenance and preventative measures, such as protection from direct sunlight, frequent rotation, and professional cleaning, can also help extend its lifespan.
